Freewrite: Wild Places

Posted by in Freewrites, Poetry, Poetry, Ten Minutes, Writing

Always you remain, lingering
somewhere in my wild places
conjured by calypso
and the bird song at dawn

Then the sea salt air
olfactory hallucinations
an unexpected ocean spray
and black tar sand on my palms.

I recall you like lost days
of a torrid youth, melancholy
or a quiet letting go of the old man,
finally at peace with it all.

I recall you and look forward
-breathe-
at the same time
wrap myself up in your memory
and wait for time to strike us down.

You’ve become a refuge of moments
entangled with reggae
and ocean and California sun.

You’ve become bookstores like mazes
and eating from one bowl
and mina rakastan sinua-

Always, always.

I’ve become more
or less
or something other
than us.
